What's It All About: Part III of III
A New Way to Adopt in Colorado!
Project 1.27 is a ministry "Answering God's Call for Adoption." We exist to bring Christian Families together with kids in the Colorado Foster Care System, so that there are no waiting children in Colorado. We hope that one day the kids in our nation's foster care system will say, "if only I could get to Colorado, I know that I could find a real Mom and Dad in Colorado, because God is real!" We believe that in mobilizing the body of Christ in Colorado, and someday the world, that all children could have a home.
Pastor Robert Gelinas of Colorado Community Church has a vision for adoption. He is no stranger to adoption; his stories are equally as dramatic and joyful (he has adopted two children and is trying to adopt two more). But he is also hopeful to get churches from all over Colorado involved in adoption. The vision is to "Unite the Body of Christ" through adoption. Project 1.27 began its efforts at Colorado Community Church in Aurora, Colorado, in July of 2004. During that fall we recruited volunteer staff and foster care system professionals from within our own congregation. By the end of 2004, we had over 200 volunteers. On Jan 4, 2005 we had our first Adoptive Parent and Support Team Orientation. Though it was a blustery, snowy night, 250 people attended. In our first month, we have recruited 24 solid families who are now finishing their training and home studies.
This fall Project 1.27 will begin to recruit other churches throughout Colorado to begin their own chapter of Project 1.27. We will do everything we can to assist those churches in administering the model to recruit, train and support those God-chosen families towards successful adoptions.
